Armed Forces Covenant

The covenant has two main parts. The Duty of the Nation ensures that armed forces personnel are not disadvantaged in areas like healthcare, housing or employment compared to the civilian population. It also commits to ensuring that families of serving personnel are supported and looked after.

The Responsibility of the Armed Forces focuses on the commitment of the armed forces to maintain a high standard of behaviour and to uphold values such as respect, integrity and honour in both military and civilian life.

The Armed Forces Covenant encourages public, private and voluntary organisations to show support by offering initiatives or services designed to assist armed forces members and their families, such as special hiring practices, preferential housing policies or healthcare provisions.
